Bangkok at night

Bangkok, the capital of Thailand. A vast city, covering around 1,500 sq. kilometres with approximately 10 million people living in Bangkok.

Built around the Chao Phraya river, with a network of canals, Bangkok is sometimes called the 'Venice of the East'. Many people rely on the waterways for their daily life, a river and canal boat trip is highly recommended for visitors to Bangkok as it offers a fascinating view of this bustling city.

There are many things to do to keep you entertained during your stay..

Culture
Along the riverside sits the Royal Grand Palace, Wat Arun (Temple of the Dawn), and Wat Pho, with it's giant reclining buddha. See some of Thailand's best cultural heritage in this area of 'old' Bangkok - away from the modern bright lights that adorn much of the city centre.

Nightlife
Probably the most popular area for a night out is Sukhumvit road, with hundreds of bars & restaurants lining the road and many of the smaller streets, with a night market spread along the length of the road. Elsewhere there is Silom and Patpong, and Khao San Road is always busy and lively.

Shopping
Daytime markets, night markets, giant modern shopping centres, there is someone with a stall along every street. Siam Square, Ploenchit and Pratunam is the main shopping area, with a huge number of large shopping centres; both top quality and bargain places.. a great place to find a wide selection of clothes & electronics, and many other items.
Chatuchak weekend market, in the north of Bangkok is the world's largest market - definitely worth a visit just to look around, aswell as the usual clothes & Thai handicrafts, there are areas dedicated to selling plants, pets and food.

From the cultural attractions of the Grand Palace and hundreds of Buddhist temples, the neon signs of the famous nightlife and bar areas, to the street markets and modern shopping centres. All combines to form a unique experience.
