Australia Car Rental

Sydney Harbour Bridge & Sydney Opera House

The untouched wilderness of Australia contrasts sharply to the highly developed urbanised cities, driving in Australia is a great way to get around and see the country, and a memorable experience.

Most visitors to Australia arrive at Sydney Airport, where you can collect your rental vehicle and journey onward. Sydney boasts many sights of it's own, including the Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge, and the close proximity of the city to many great beaches like the famous Bondi Beach, makes it a great place for sun-seekers.

Uluru Rock, formerly Ayers Rock, in Australia

Ayers Rock, now known as Uluru, is Australia's most recognisable natural landmark, and an impressive sight for visitors. Easily reached by car, it is a must-see for anyone embarking on a road-trip in Australia. The Kata Tjuta rock formation (formerly 'The Olgas') is a short distance from Uluru, comprising of several domed rocks protruding from the flat surrounding plains. Getting to the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park usually involves driving from Alice Springs and stopping at the town of Yulara, where you can find accommodation, there is also an airport at Yulara.

Driving in Australia is an incredible experience like nowhere else in the world, the huge open spaces and amazing landscapes are well worth the time and preparation required. Distances can be great between cities, but the main roads and highways are well maintained so there is usually little to worry about. Sometimes you can travel for hundreds of miles without a petrol station, so take notice of your fuel and supplies of water as you may not have much chance to refuel or buy refreshments. In the outback, a lot of care should be taken to ensure that you are self-sufficient when driving, such as bringing an extra can of fuel in the boot, water, food, blankets, etc. The cross-country highways in Australia can often run in a straight line with no curves for many miles.
